Why is MusicSenergy™?
There is perhaps, no other art form as universal and persuasive as
music. The sound of music strikes a chord on the keys of Man’s soul –
despite age, race, gender or any other difference – igniting vibrations
in our mind and body.
The power of music over young people especially seems almost
supernatural. Like
torrents of rain over low ground it saturates them, leaving no appetite
un-whetted. Ready to absorb new knowledge, they reach out to music
for answers to life’s most serious questions. Modern popular singers
once referred to as “teen idols” are now more like spiritual teachers -
their song lyrics taken for scripture and prophecy.
The impact music has on us is nothing new. But is this impact such a
bad thing? Perhaps not if it was balanced with a heightened
awareness of how music is a part of our daily lives and just how much
it influences us on many levels. Therein lies an opportunity to use
music for higher purposes vs. solely for self-expression and
entertainment.
Teenagers in particular are struggling to find a sense of self in
the music they listen to. Their favorite song might simply consist of
two rhyming couplets repeated twenty or thirty times, but it satisfies
the young listener’s craving for power, independence and moral content.
Indeed, it is troubling that the leading causes of death and
dysfunction among urban youth/young adult males [ages 14-25] are murder
and incarceration. And today's media moguls air, broadcast and screen
images of criminal activity disrespectful conduct, violence, suicide
and murder as prime time entertainment. The iconic sights and sounds of
urban America have set a whole new, disturbing standard for pop trends
domestically and abroad. What were once shared American values admired
by people all over the world, are now attitudes, beliefs and choices
that result in increasing rates of dis-ease and threaten the healthy
development and survival of each new generation.
Aired music is arguably the most powerful form of media. Because music
is freely transmitted through commercial radio and via the Internet,
all - including our young, easily access it. This population may be the
most vulnerable among us.
But all isn't lost. Julian Owens, Executive Producer of MusicSenergy™ offers a creative approach to achieving more balance
in commerical music. Owens' work with youth and young adults in
particular heightens their awareness of music's role in our daily
lives. Owens also wants to remind all of just how much music influences
our attitudes, beliefs and choices [ABCs]. His signature Seven Jewels™ approach to
educating youth is the difference many teachers, concerned parents and
socially conscience artisans are seeking today as many struggle to find
alternatives to the prevailing pop culture that fuels dis-ease.
We are doing our part to save a generation some say is lost. Please
join us.
